In this day and age it’s nice to see something that raises our spirits.
Every day before going to school a young boy helped a deer, who just happened to be blind, find food. This story first came to us from Reddit, and Reddit user Bluecollarclassicist.
A blind deer lived in a neighborhood in Illinois, where bluecollarclassisit lives.
An animal like this could not normally live long in a suburban environment; but due to the efforts of this one child, the deer now has a chance to survive.
The survival rate of any animal declines when they live outside their natural habitats, but add in vehicles and urban sprawl and their chances recede even further, particularly if they’re blind, as this deer was. Chances of being hit and killed by an automobile were much higher than that of a sighted animal.
As luck would have it, this particular deer wandered into a neighborhood where a kind-hearted and generous boy lived. Not only did the boy give up time he could have spent playing, he watched over the animal and made certain it had a safe place to rest and food to eat.
Fortunately, the news about this wonderful story flew and reached the ears of a local rescue organization who undertook the deed of moving the deer to a place where it could live safely and happily.
The deer’s 10-year-old benefactor never tried to adopt him as a pet, he just searched for the deer quietly every day until he found him.
With the rescue organization now alerted to the deer’s plight, they caught him and moved him to a shelter where he could be safe and have a peaceful life among other animals.
Bluecollarclassicist and his wife thought this was one of the sweetest and kindest examples of someone being helpful and understanding they had witnessed and hope to reward the young boy’s selfless acts by taking him to visit the deer where the wildlife rehabilitation group placed him in relative safety at the state wildlife preserve. Not all heroes wear capes.
